GM believes that we have an obligation to do more than just build and sell great products; we also have an obligation to give back to the communities in which we do business. It maintains its focus on environmental protection, road safety and public health as part of its strategy of working in China, with China and for China.GM will continue to make CSR a vital component of our business while remaining committed to helping create a greener, safer and healthier community in China.

  • April 20 The Cadillac CT6 Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) made its global debut at Auto Shanghai 2015.
    April 27 GM employees participated in the Chevrolet Red Chalk Program as volunteer teachers and revisited Jianxin Primary School, Hunan province after four years to celebrate of the tenth anniversary of the Chevrolet Red Chalk Program.
    May 25 Chevrolet teamed up with One World Play Project to distribute 100,000 ultra-durable footballs through the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation to benefit schools in remote parts of China.
    May 27 GM and Shanghai Jiao Tong University began a two-year vehicle sharing pilot program featuring 16 Chevrolet EN-V 2.0 electric concept vehicles.
    May 31 The 2015 Safe Kids Safe Ride program was launched by GM China in cooperation with Safe Kids Worldwide to raise public awareness of child safety in and around vehicles.
    June 5 SAIC-GM and the China Environment Culture Promotion Association (CECPA) launched the Drive to Green environmental crowdfunding platform on World Environment Day.
    July 9 GM China’s Green in Motion series kicked off in Yunnan to show how GM is increasing the fuel efficiency of the vehicles it builds and sells in China.
    August 21 SAIC-GM-Wuling started construction of its new energy vehicle base in Liuzhou, Guangxi.
    September 12 GM China Beijing office volunteers took a 50-kilometer charity walk to raise funds for poor children in Guizhou. A total of RMB 4.5 million was raised.
    October 16 The 2015 “Route Awakening” Buick China Culture Tour ended after covering more than 6,500 kilometers over two months on the Silk Road and Maritime Silk Road. The Buick Enclave, Envision and Encore SUVs provided support.
    October 22 The Chevrolet EN-V 2.0 vehicle sharing pilot program launched by GM and Shanghai Jiao Tong University received the Best Innovative Practice Award for adopting innovative practices and helping Shanghai transform into a global technology innovation center.
    October 30 GM China celebrated GM Volunteer Month by leading a course on safety in and around vehicles at the Qing’an Private Primary School in Shanghai.
    December 10 Hunan University opened its Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education (PACE) Center. GM joined Autodesk, Hewlett Packard, Siemens PLM Software and Oracle to donate software and hardware worth over $280 million.
    December 31 The GM China Carpooling pilot program was launched for Shanghai-based employees.
  • March 18 SGM’s Buick brand has joined CCTV to support the Good Drivers of China campaign, helping create a more orderly, safer, more efficient and more harmonious traffic environment.
    March 29 GM China participated WWF’s Earth Hour. GM China Campus in Shanghai, GM Beijing Office and Guangzhou Office jointly turned off the lights for an hour to support the Earth Hour initiative.
    April 8 The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has recognized General Motors for the second consecutive year with a 2014 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award and Climate Communications Award for continued leadership in protecting the environment through superior energy management.
    April 10 Twenty-nine GM China employees and eleven SGM employees supported the GM Restoring Nature's Habitat Project as volunteers to help protect the habitat of migratory birds at the Shanghai Chongming Dongtan National Nature Reserve.
    April 19 General Motors President Dan Ammann gave a "fireside chat" to students at Peking University.
    April 30 The Wuhan University of Technology (WHUT) held an opening ceremony for its new Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education (PACE) Center. The WHUT PACE Center received a donation of engineering and design software and hardware valued at $433 million from several PACE Partner companies.
    May 8 Two Shanghai GM plants, SAIC-GM Dong Yue Automotive Powertrain Co. Ltd. in Yantai, Shandong, and the SGM Jinqiao North Plant in Shanghai, are among the four General Motors plants worldwide that have met the ENERGY STAR® Challenge for Industry for a second time, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
    May 20 GM describes its efforts on working to transform transportation in its latest sustainability report. GM is restructuring its global vehicle portfolio, rethinking manufacturing and collaborating with unlikely partners to advance the industry.
    June 17 Ten volunteers from across China visited Tongyu County, Jilin Province, to teach students at the Shuanggang Primary School as part of the Chevrolet Red Chalk Program.
    June 20 Buick sponsored the 3rd Annual Taihu World Cultural Forum in Shanghai to promote traditional Chinese culture.
    June 21 The Safe Kids Safe Ride Program was launched by GM China in cooperation with Safe Kids Worldwide to reduce vehicle-related child injuries and raise public awareness of child safety in and around vehicles.
    July 25 GM China was recognized as the fourth-best Fortune 500 company in the area of corporate social responsibility at the 2014 Corporate Social Responsibility Annual Conference in Beijing. It is the second consecutive year that GM has been among the top companies.
    August 4 GM pledged a donation of RMB 2 million to support disaster relief in Ludian, Yunnan, which was struck by an earthquake the previous day.
    October 28 GM China’s Safe Kids Safe Ride Program visited the Shanghai New Century Kindergarten. Among the volunteers was GM Executive Vice President and GM China President Matt Tsien, who spoke to the young participants about the importance of safety while riding in a vehicle.
    November 4 GM held a vehicle safety conference at the company’s Milford, Mich. Proving Ground recently to remind parents to have a talk with young drivers and help teen drivers form safe behaviors on the road.
    November 12 The 2014 Safe Kids Safe Ride Program successfully concluded. The 2014 program featured a record 30 volunteer activities and involved the participation of nearly 500 employees from GM China, SGM and Shanghai OnStar. They reached out to an estimated 13,000 children and their parents in Shanghai, Beijing and Xiamen.
    November 13 GM was recognized by the Wildlife Habitat Council for creating a wildlife habitat and enhancing biodiversity at the Guangde Proving Ground in Anhui. It was the first company in China to earn certification from the international nonprofit organization for its habitat program.
    November 19 GM China signed a memorandum of understanding with Shanghai Jiao Tong University to collaborate on a vehicle sharing program featuring the Chevrolet EN-V 2.0 (Electric Networked-Vehicle) starting in 2015.
    December 1 A team of volunteers from GM China visited the former Ya’an, Sichuan, earthquake zone from December 1-3. They inspected the four clinics and four multimedia classrooms built with funds donated by GM China and its employees. They also provided traffic safety lessons to local primary school students.
    December 13 The 2014 GM China Consumer Fuel-Saving Challenge concluded in Guiyang, Guizhou. Under the theme of “Use Less Fuel, Have More Fun,” the 2014 GM China Consumer Fuel-Saving Challenge showcased the fuel economy of products from the Chevrolet, Buick and Baojun brands at its three stops across China.
  • January 7 SAIC-GM-Wuling held a return visit of the Journey of Angels to Yiliang Campaign and donated RMB 500,000 to build the Yiliang Charity Health Service Center.
    April 12 GM China held the Shining Dish Day event at the GM Campus in Shanghai.
    April GM China and its employees donated over RMB 4 million to support earthquake relief and reconstruction in Ya’an, Sichuan. GM’s joint ventures in China also donated more than RMB 2 million in funds, vehicles and supplies.
    May 14 GM China initiated the GM Cup Telematics App Contest for university students.
    October 13 GM China Family Day was held for employees and their family members in Shanghai.
    November 15 and 22 GM China held two Health Day events at the GM Campus in Shanghai.
    November 29 SAIC-GM-Wuling launched the SAIC-GM-Wuling Partner Fund to sponsor selected charitable activities recommended by customers.
    December 2 GM China launched the Let Me See You Traffic Safety Schoolbag Project in partnership with the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) at the Laochang Central Primary School in Ya’an, Sichuan.
    December 21 The 2013 GM China Consumer Fuel-Saving Challenge concluded in Haikou following stops in Kunming, Xining, Beijing, Shanghai and Shenyang.
  • GM China launched three-year Restoring Nature’s Habitat Project with the China Environmental Protection Foundation.
    GM participated Earth Hour Program in continuous four years.
    GM employees served as volunteers in Shanghai Chongming Dongtan Nature Reserve during Birds Loving Day.

    GM joined the Shanghai government in the launch of China’s first ever new energy vehicle (NEV) first responder training program.
    The First phase of Restoring Nature’s Habitat Project was completed successfully.
  • Shared best practices with Chinese Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment (CAEFI) members during the Multinational Corporation CSR Workshop organized by China Auto Paper.
    Shared GM’s plans for expanding its successful cooperation with SAIC in overseas markets at the 9th MOC Transnational Corporations China Forum.
    Cooperated with the World Environment Center (WEC) and SAIC-GM-Wuling to launch the Green Supply Chain pilot program at its joint venture.
    Participated in Earth Hour and encouraged employees to "go beyond the hour" and make energy saving a priority in their daily lives.
    Joined hudong.com in launching the GM Safe Road Project in Beijing and creating a special website serving as China’s first platform for enabling the general public to share useful tips on road safety and safe driving.
    The Naman Rural Hospital, whose construction was funded by GM and SAIC-GM-Wuling, opened in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region’s Naman township.
    The Green Supply Chain Midterm Evaluation Workshop was held at SAIC-GM-Wuling.
  • Launched the Low Carbon Spring Festival program with hudong.com to encourage people to shrink their carbon footprint.

    Donated RMB 1 million to the China Red Cross to support rescue and reconstruction efforts following an earthquake in Qinghai.

    Joined the National Care for Children Committee in launching the GM Child Family Road Safety Education Program, which benefited 790,000 families in Beijing, Tianjin, Qingdao, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Hefei.
  • Established the China Automotive Energy Research Center (CAERC) with SAIC and Tsinghua University in Beijing.
    Sponsored the Harmonious Road Safety program and provided a fleet of 10 Chevrolets as working vehicles to promote traffic safety education in Xi'an, Chengdu, Changsha, Shanghai, Tianjin and Beijing.
    Funded the Rural Workers Health Education Project organized by the Global Business Coalition.
    Provided participants in the AIDS Orphans Summer Camp initiated by the Chiheng Foundation the opportunity to visit SGM.
    Launched the Care and Health Campaign for a Harmonious Campus with the Global Business Coalition and the World Health Organization.
    Sponsored the China Rural Clean Drinking Water Seminar along with the China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development.
    Donated funds to the Red Cross Society of China for snowstorm relief.
